What I Would Do for Chest Congestion Support
Chest congestion is one of those symptoms that immediately makes me think about movement.
What feels stagnant?
What isn’t moving or draining well?
What systems may need additional support?
And what is the rest of the body doing alongside the congestion?
I recently shared why Lung support is about much more than breathing, especially as we move into fall. But if I actually started noticing congestion in my chest, I’d shift from that bigger-picture conversation into something much more practical.
I wouldn’t only ask:
What can I take for the congestion?
I’d ask:
What does my body need in order to move through this well?
First, I Pay Attention to the Pattern
Chest congestion isn’t something I automatically approach the same way every time.
I’d start by noticing what else is happening.
Did this begin with sinus congestion or a sore throat?
Am I coughing?
Is the cough dry or productive?
Does my chest feel heavy or tight?
Am I noticing mucus?
Has my energy changed?
Do I feel run down?
Am I adequately hydrated?
How is my digestion and elimination?
Is everything moving, or does my entire system feel a little stagnant?
Those details give me information.
And if something feels significantly different from my normal pattern, is persistent or worsening, or I’m having difficulty breathing, chest pain, or other concerning symptoms, that’s not something I’m trying to manage entirely on my own.
Then I Think About Drainage
One of the biggest things I think about with congestion is drainage.
If my body is producing mucus, I don’t only want to think about making the symptom disappear.
I’m thinking about how I can support the body’s normal processes for clearing secretions while also giving my system the resources it needs.
That may mean hydration and electrolytes.
Warmth.
Gentle movement.
Lymphatic movement.
Nourishment.
Rest.
And targeted remedies based on what I’m finding.
I’m not trying to force my body to move through something faster.
I’m asking:
How can I support what my body is already trying to do?
My Go-Tos for Chest Congestion
I don’t have one universal chest congestion protocol, and I’m not automatically taking everything below at once.
I pay attention to what is showing up, muscle test, and adjust my support as the pattern changes.
But there are a few Energetix remedies I tend to reach for first.
Energetix Drainage-Tone
One of my go-tos when I’m thinking about supporting the body’s natural drainage and elimination processes.
Energetix Sinus-Tone
Another go-to, especially when there is sinus or upper respiratory congestion happening alongside what I’m feeling in my chest.
Energetix Tox-Chord
One I commonly muscle test when I’m thinking about the body’s natural detoxification and elimination processes.
From there, I may layer in other support depending on what my body is showing me.
Herbs + Nourishment I Might Reach For
I like keeping this part relatively simple.
Ginger Tea + Manuka Honey
Ginger tea is almost always a go-to for me. It’s warm, hydrating, and comforting. I may add Manuka honey to the tea as well.
Mullein Remedy
Mullein has a long history of traditional use for respiratory support, so this is one I may muscle test when my lungs feel like they need additional support.
Marco Pharma Pulmonest
Another remedy I like having available when I’m looking for more targeted respiratory support. I muscle test it rather than assuming I need it every time.
Supreme Nutrition Scutellaria
One of my favorite herbs and another option I may muscle test depending on the overall pattern my body is showing me.
Stinging Nettle Tea
Something I may reach for when I want an herbal tea that also provides naturally occurring minerals and other plant compounds.
Bone Broth
Sometimes support looks more like nourishment than another remedy. Warm bone broth gives me something easy and nourishing to sip when my body is already working hard and I want to give it additional resources.
Other Remedies I Might Test + Consider
Depending on what I’m finding, there are a few other remedies I may muscle test rather than automatically assuming every case of congestion needs the same support.
Standard Process Fen-Gre
One I may consider when congestion feels thick or stagnant and I’m looking for additional support around respiratory secretions and mucus.
Echinacea
One I like having available when I’m thinking about immune support, particularly when congestion is showing up alongside other signs that my immune system is under increased demand.
Energetix Aller-Chord A
One I may muscle test when the pattern seems more connected to environmental or seasonal allergens rather than assuming every episode of congestion is related to an illness.
Standard Process Antronex
Another one I may test when environmental or seasonal exposure seems to be part of the bigger picture.
This is another reason I don’t love having one universal “chest congestion protocol.”
Congestion can show up alongside very different patterns.
Is my immune system navigating something?
Is there an environmental component?
Is everything thick and stagnant?
Does my body primarily need drainage support?
Is there something else entirely that needs my attention?
The symptom may look similar on the surface, but the support I choose can be completely different depending on what the rest of my body is showing me.
Physical + Aromatic Support
Not everything I reach for comes in a bottle.
Sometimes the simplest things feel the most supportive.
Warm Compress
I may place a warm compress over my chest when it feels heavy or congested. The warmth feels comforting, especially when I’m resting and allowing my body to slow down.
Warm Shower or Epsom Salt Bath
A warm shower or Epsom salt bath is another one of my go-tos. Sometimes I simply want the warmth, steam, and an opportunity to slow down and let my body rest.
Keep My Feet Warm
This is such a simple one, but I pay attention to keeping my body warm when I’m not feeling well. Socks or slippers go on, especially if my feet are cold.
Manuka Honey Cough Drops
Something else I like having nearby when my throat feels irritated or uncomfortable. I may use a Manuka honey cough drop simply to coat and soothe my throat.
Lymph Pump Maneuver
I personally use a gentle lymph pump maneuver when I want to support lymphatic movement.
Gentle Movement
If I feel up for it, Luna and I may take a slower walk. If my body wants rest instead, I listen to that too.
Warmth + Hydration
I’m paying attention to hydration throughout the day, and I may add electrolytes to my water for additional hydration support. Warm liquids are usually especially appealing to me when I’m congested, so ginger tea with Manuka honey, stinging nettle tea, and bone broth are all things I may reach for.
I’m not trying to force myself to drink an excessive amount of water. I’m simply making sure I’m giving my body adequate fluids while it’s already working hard.
Breathe Essential Oil Blend
I also like having a Breathe blend around when I’m feeling congested. I may diffuse it so I can enjoy the aroma in my environment, or appropriately dilute it with a carrier oil and apply it topically, including to the bottoms of my feet.
I Don’t Forget About My Nervous System
Being sick is already a physiological stressor.
I don’t want to make that stress bigger by expecting my body to maintain exactly the same pace it does when I feel well.
So I ask:
What can I take off my plate today?
Do I need more sleep?
Am I eating and drinking enough?
Am I actually allowing myself to recover?
Am I trying to push through because I don’t want to slow down?
Sometimes nervous system support when I don’t feel well is incredibly simple.
I do less.
I sleep more.
I nourish myself.
I let my body use its resources for what it’s already trying to accomplish.
Flower Essence + Energetic Support
I’m also paying attention to whether there is an emotional or energetic layer asking for support.
LotusWei Sacred Heart
One I may reach for when I’m supporting the emotional and energetic side of the Lung system. I especially think about Sacred Heart when grief, heaviness, heartache, or something that feels ready to soften and move is coming forward.
Energetix Calm Five
One I may muscle test when my nervous system feels overstimulated or I want additional emotional support while my body is navigating everything else.
Energetix Fields of Flowers
Another one I may muscle test when there seems to be a broader emotional component coming forward.
NET #2 — Metal Spray
One I may use when I’m working with the Lung/Metal element and the emotional and energetic themes traditionally associated with it, including grief, boundaries, and letting go.
I don’t assume that chest congestion means there must be an emotional issue underneath it.
Sometimes there’s something there.
Sometimes there isn’t.
If it feels relevant, I leave room to explore it without forcing an emotional meaning onto a physical symptom.
The Metaphysical Layer I Might Explore
Alongside everything I’m looking at physically, I may also explore whether there is a metaphysical or energetic pattern showing up with the congestion.
I don’t assume that congestion means there has to be an energetic explanation.
Sometimes congestion is simply congestion.
But because I work with the whole person, I leave room to ask whether something else is showing up at the same time.
With congestion, one of the first themes I might explore is:
What am I having difficulty clearing?
Is there chaos around me that I feel like I can’t clear?
Do I feel stuck in chaotic energy?
Is there something in my life that feels stagnant, heavy, or difficult to move through?
Am I holding onto something that I’m ready to release?
Do I feel like I have enough space to breathe and expand?
Am I carrying energy that doesn’t belong to me?
Then I may go deeper into the energetic field and muscle test whether there are patterns I personally describe in my work as:
Energetic knives in the back.
Target energies.
Hooks, cords, or attachments.
Other people’s energy sitting in my field.
Energy that needs to be cleared or released.
These are metaphysical and energetic concepts I use within my own healing framework.
For me, they’re another avenue for curiosity.
If something tests as relevant, I can address that energetic layer while still supporting what my physical body needs.
And if nothing is there, I don’t force a meaning onto the symptom.
That’s an important part of this work too.
Physical support and energetic exploration don’t have to compete with one another.
I can drink the water with electrolytes.
I can make the ginger tea with Manuka honey.
I can use warmth, nourishment, rest, drainage support, and the remedies that test appropriately.
And I can still ask:
Is there anything else my body or energy field is asking me to notice or clear?
I Keep Coming Back to Movement + Support
When chest congestion shows up, it’s easy to become completely focused on making the symptom disappear.
I understand that. Congestion is uncomfortable.
But I keep coming back to:
What is my body trying to do, and how can I support that process?
Maybe my lungs need additional support.
Maybe drainage needs attention.
Maybe I need warmth and hydration.
Maybe I need nourishment.
Maybe my nervous system needs less demand.
Maybe I simply need more sleep and time.
Often, it’s more than one thing.
So I notice.
I ask questions.
I muscle test.
I support what seems to be the priority.
And then I keep listening as the pattern changes.
Because supporting the body isn’t always about doing more.
Sometimes it’s about understanding what the body is already trying to do and giving it the resources, nourishment, and space to do that well.
