What I Would Do If I Felt a Cold Coming On
Back-to-school season is here, which means earlier mornings, fuller schedules, changing routines, and a whole lot more exposure to whatever happens to be going around.
I’m always paying attention to the signals my body gives me. That’s part of how I care for myself every day.
So when something starts to shift whether it is a slightly scratchy throat, a change in my energy, some congestion, heaviness in my body, or simply feeling a little different than I normally do, I notice it.
And I respond early.
I’m not waiting to see if it turns into something bigger. I’ll start reaching for the remedies and support that feel appropriate while also asking questions about what my body may need.
When My Signals Change, I Get Curious
Because I already know my normal patterns, I can usually recognize when something feels different.
At the first sign of that change, I’m supporting my body and looking at the bigger picture.
Have I had more exposure than usual?
Has my schedule been fuller?
Do I need more sleep or recovery?
Does my body need support with drainage?
What am I noticing in my throat, sinuses, lungs, lymphatic system, digestion, or energy?
Is there an emotional or nervous system component that needs attention too?
I’m not asking these questions because I’ve ignored my body up until this point. I’m asking because the signals have changed, and those changes give me more information about what kind of support may be helpful.
Then I continue listening.
I may muscle test different remedies. I may adjust what I’m using as my symptoms change. I may prioritize more rest, hydration, nourishment, or drainage alongside those remedies.
For me, it’s an ongoing conversation with my body:
Notice the shift. Support what’s showing up. Ask what else the body needs. Keep listening.
I Don’t Try to Push Through It
If my body is asking for rest, I listen.
That might mean going to bed earlier. Clearing something unnecessary from my schedule. Drinking more water. Eating nourishing meals. Taking a warm shower. Making tea. Or simply having a quieter evening.
Sometimes we become so focused on finding the perfect supplement or remedy that we overlook the basic things our body has been asking us for all along.
And if my system is already under increased demand, I don’t want to keep piling more stress onto it simply because I can push through.
Then I Decide What Kind of Support My Body Needs
This is where my approach is a little different.
I don’t have one universal “cold protocol” that I automatically follow.
I may look at immune support, drainage, detoxification, respiratory support, nervous system stress, or energetic support depending on what I’m noticing.
And then I use muscle testing and my own body awareness to help determine which remedies feel appropriate for me.
I’m not taking everything listed below at once.
These are simply the things I like to have on hand, especially as we head into back-to-school season and fall.
Remedies I’d Have on Hand
Energetix
Tox-Chord
One I may test when I want to support the body’s natural detoxification and elimination processes.Flu-Tone
Something I like to have available when I start noticing cold or flu-like symptoms.Bacteria-Chord
Another option I keep available and may muscle test when my body is asking for additional support.Drainage-Tone
One I may consider when supporting the body’s natural drainage and elimination pathways feels like a priority.
Herbs + Additional Support
Echinacea
One of the herbs I like to have available during cold and flu season, particularly when I notice those early signs that my immune system is under increased demand.NET #9 — 911
Something I may test when there’s a significant stress component or my nervous system and energy feel like they need additional support.Supreme Nutrition — Illicium
Another product I like to keep on hand and muscle test for when my body is asking for additional support.
Flower Essences + Energetic Support
I’m also paying attention to what is happening energetically.
Back-to-school season can mean being around more people, more environments, more stimulation, and more demands on our energy.
That matters too.
LotusWei Sacred Body Elixir + Mist
I use Sacred Body when I want to support the energetic side of clearing and detoxification—anything my body or energy field feels ready to release. I may use the elixir as part of my personal practice and the mist in my environment.LotusWei Radiant Energy
I reach for Radiant Energy when I want to support and protect my energy, especially when I’m around more people, my schedule is fuller, or I notice myself feeling depleted.LotusWei Divine Truth Anointing Oil
If I notice a scratchy or sore throat, Divine Truth is one I may reach for as part of my energetic practice.Alongside supporting the physical body, I’ll ask myself: Where am I suppressing my voice? Where am I holding back what I really want to say? Where am I unable to express myself clearly?
For me, the physical signal can also be an invitation to explore what may be happening emotionally and energetically.
Energetix Calm Five
One I may muscle test when my system feels overstimulated, stressed, or like it needs additional emotional and energetic support to settle.Energetix Fields of Flowers
I like having this one available when I want broader flower essence support and my body is showing me there may be an emotional or energetic layer that needs attention too.Just like everything else I use, I don’t assume I need all of these at once. I muscle test and pay attention to what my body is asking for in that moment.
Sometimes the Best Support Is the Simplest
More sleep.
More water.
Warm tea.
Nourishing food.
Less stimulation.
Fresh air.
A quieter evening.
Giving your body permission to slow down before it has to force you to.
I think this is an important part of supporting ourselves that can easily get lost.
You don’t always need more.
Sometimes your body needs fewer demands and more resources.
Back-to-School Season Is a Great Time to Start Listening Earlier
Whether you have kids heading back to school or you simply feel the shift that happens as summer starts moving toward fall, this is a season when routines begin changing again.
Schedules get fuller. Sleep can change. Activities start back up. We’re around more people. And respiratory illnesses tend to circulate more when people spend more time together indoors.
Rather than becoming fearful of every sniffle or scratchy throat, I think this is an opportunity to become more connected to your body.
What does your body do when it’s getting run down?
Does your energy drop?
Does your throat feel different?
Do you become more irritable?
Does your digestion change?
Do you suddenly want more sleep?
Do you feel congested or heavy?
Those little changes are information.
The goal isn’t to become hyperaware of every sensation or to try to prevent yourself from ever getting sick.
It’s to know your body well enough that you recognize when something has shifted—and respond with support instead of waiting until your body has to demand your attention.
Because your body is communicating long before symptoms become impossible to ignore.
You don’t have to wait until your body is screaming to start listening to the whisper.
